Boiler servicing in Birmingham

Annual boiler services by Gas Safe registered engineers, for all major makes. Keeps your boiler safe, efficient and covered by its warranty.

Why get your boiler serviced?

  • Keep your warranty. Most manufacturers need proof of a yearly service before they'll pay out on a claim.
  • Stay safe. A service checks the boiler is burning gas cleanly and getting rid of fumes properly, which protects you from carbon monoxide.
  • Avoid breakdowns. Worn parts get spotted early, before they fail on the coldest night of the year.
  • Lower bills. A clean, well set-up boiler uses less gas to heat your home.

What happens at a service

The engineer checks the boiler is burning gas safely and cleanly. They open it up, look for wear and leaks, clean parts that need it, test the safety devices and check the flue is getting rid of fumes properly. A gas analyser measures what's coming out of the flue. They also check the system pressure and the controls.

Everything gets written down in your boiler's service history.

When to book

Any time of year is fine, as long as it's roughly 12 months since the last one. Late summer and early autumn are a good choice: you find any problems before you need the heating, and engineers are less busy than in the first cold snap.

Getting ready

  • Clear the cupboard around the boiler so the engineer can work safely.
  • Find your boiler's service record or Benchmark booklet if you have it.
  • Let us know about any problems you've noticed, even small ones.

Landlords

The law says landlords must have a gas safety check every year. A service isn't a legal must, but it's the best way to avoid breakdown callouts from tenants in winter. Booking both at the same visit means arranging access only once. See our landlord services.

Already broken down?

If your boiler has stopped working, see boiler repair. If it's beyond saving, see boiler installation.

Common questions

How often should a boiler be serviced?

Once a year. Most manufacturers make an annual service a condition of the warranty, so missing one can mean a repair isn't covered.

Is a boiler service the same as a gas safety check?

No. A gas safety check confirms your gas appliances are safe to use. A service goes further: the engineer opens the boiler up, cleans and checks the parts inside and makes sure it is running efficiently. Landlords need the gas safety check every year by law, and many book the service at the same visit.

How long does a service take?

Usually around an hour. It can take longer if the boiler needs a deeper clean or a part replacing.

Which makes do you service?

All the common makes, including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi, Glow-worm and Viessmann.

Will I get a record of the service?

Yes. The service is recorded in your boiler's service history, which you need for warranty claims and is handy when you sell the house.
