Gas and electrics in one visit
Kaz is both a gas engineer and an electrician, with 25 years in the trade. Express Contractors has been running since 2002.
That saves you time. Landlords can get the gas safety certificate and theEICR (electrical safety report) done on the same day. That means one visit, one booking and one set of keys to hand over. A new boiler often needs electrical work too, and we can do both parts ourselves.
We're Gas Safe registered and NICEIC approved. You can check both on the official registers before you book.
Smell gas?
Call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 first. Open the windows and turn off the gas at the meter if you can. Don't use light switches or naked flames. Once the emergency service has made it safe, we can come and do the repair.
When to call a gas engineer
Some problems can wait a day. These ones shouldn't.
- The boiler keeps losing pressure or shows a fault code
- A yellow or orange flame on the hob or fire, instead of a sharp blue one
- Black marks or soot around a boiler, fire or cooker
- The pilot light keeps going out
- Your carbon monoxide alarm goes off
- No heating or hot water, especially with older people or babies at home
If your CO alarm goes off, turn off the appliance, open the windows and get everyone outside. Then call0800 111 999.
Why it must be a Gas Safe engineer
In the UK, anyone who works on gas for money must be on the Gas Safe Register. It's the law. Bad gas work can cause leaks, fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.
A real Gas Safe engineer carries an ID card with their photo and licence number. The back of the card shows the work they're qualified for, such as boilers or cookers. It's fine to ask to see it. A good engineer won't mind.
Don't let a friend or a handyman fit a cooker or move a gas pipe, even if they say they know how. Work that isn't signed off can also cause problems with your home insurance.
Common questions
How do I check a gas engineer is Gas Safe registered?
Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card. It has a photo, a licence number and the dates it is valid for. The back lists the types of gas work they are qualified to do. You can check the licence number on the Gas Safe Register website or by calling 0800 408 5500.
Do you work out of hours?
Yes. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you can call us at night, at weekends and on bank holidays.
Which boilers do you work on?
We repair and service all the main makes. For new boilers we fit Worcester Bosch, from £2,500.
Can you fit a gas cooker or hob?
Yes. We connect new gas cookers and hobs, and safely disconnect old ones. By law this has to be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Can you do the electrics on the same visit?
Yes. Kaz is both a gas engineer and an electrician, and we are NICEIC approved too. So one visit can cover your gas safety check and your EICR, or a new boiler and its wiring.
