Emergency plumber in Birmingham, 24 hours

Burst pipe, leak through the ceiling, or no heating? Call any time and a plumber will be sent out.

Do this first

  1. Turn off the water at the stopcock. It's usually under the kitchen sink; in older terraces, check under the stairs or by the front door.
  2. Keep water away from electrics. If water is near sockets, lights or the fuse board, switch off at the main switch, but only if it's dry and safe to reach.
  3. Turn off the boiler or immersion heater if the leak is from the heating or hot water.
  4. Open the taps to drain the system and reduce the leak.
  5. Call us on the number above.

Emergencies we attend

  • Burst and split pipes
  • Leaks through ceilings and walls
  • Leaking hot water cylinders and tanks
  • Overflowing toilets and cisterns
  • No heating or hot water (boiler breakdowns)
  • Tenant callouts for landlords and agents

Water got into the electrics? We have emergency electricians too.

While you wait

  • Move furniture, rugs and anything valuable out of the way.
  • Put buckets or towels under drips.
  • Don't switch on lights below a wet ceiling.
  • Take photos of the damage. Your insurer will want them.

Will my insurance cover it?

Many home insurance policies cover damage caused by escaping water, like a burst pipe soaking a ceiling. Some also pay towards finding the leak, often called "trace and access". The repair to the pipe itself is not always covered, so check your policy. Keep photos and receipts, and call your insurer early.

After the emergency

Once the leak is stopped and fixed, give wet areas time to dry out properly. Keep windows open and the heating on low if you can. If water got near sockets, lights or the fuse box, have the electrics tested before you use them again. Keep an eye on ceilings and walls for a few weeks. New brown stains or a musty smell can mean water is still trapped somewhere.

Common questions

What counts as a plumbing emergency?

A burst pipe, water coming through a ceiling, a leak you can't stop, a flooding toilet or cylinder, or no heating or hot water for a vulnerable person. A dripping tap or slow drain can usually wait for a normal appointment.

I have no water at all. Is it my plumbing?

Check with your neighbours and your water supplier first (Severn Trent for most of Birmingham), because it is often a mains problem. If only your home is affected, it may be a frozen pipe or a stopcock fault, and we can help.

My pipes have frozen. What should I do?

Turn off the stopcock, open the cold tap nearest the frozen section, and warm the pipe gently with a hairdryer or hot water bottle. Never use a naked flame. If the pipe has split, keep the water off and call us.

Do you charge more out of hours?

Out-of-hours rates apply in the evening, overnight and at weekends. We tell you the rate on the phone before anyone is sent.
